2016 NFL Mock Draft: Post Super Bowl Edition 1-10

Here is our initial mock draft post Super Bowl Edition:

startedwithaword:

With the first overall pick Titans select Laremy Tunsil. After using their first round pick to draft Marcus Mariota, they need to protect their investment. Fortunately, Laremy Tunsil is worthy of the first overall pick. The Titans were sacked the most at 54 sacks and it left Mariota injured at the end of the season. Rumors suggest that the Titans may want to entertain trades for people who want to jump in front of Browns for a QB. The two closest candidates would be Cowboys and 49ers. The Titans would target Hargreaves or Ramsey. However, unless Paxton, Carson, or Jared emerge as a candidate that was better than heisman winners Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota, I don’t foresee them getting a bite from either. However, if there emerges a can’t miss candidate, look for the Cowboys to jump three spots.

louiej23:

I have to agree with my colleague and I have the Titans taking Laremy Tunsil.  Marcus Mariota is their franchise QB and they will need to protect their investment.  Joey Bosa would have been an intriguing pick also.  The Titans do not have that playmaker on the defensive side of the ball.

startedwithaword:

With the second overall pick, the Cleveland Browns select Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz has been climbing since he had a stellar performance in the senior bowl practices. It helps that his 6’5″ frame and ability to make quick decisions is a great indication of his upside. Then you add that he is from a pro-style offense and that separates him from Paxton Lynch and Jared Goff. The Browns have picked a QB in the first round in every other year since picking Brandon Weeden in 2012 and Johnny Manziel in 2014. I expect no difference this year most especially with Manziel’s latest brushes with the law.

louiej23:

With the 2nd overall pick I have the Browns selecting a QB, but this is where it gets tricky the Browns need a QB and there are at least 3 QBS that can be taken with the 2nd overall pick.   I have the Browns taking Paxton Lynch from Memphis.  Lynch had a poor showing during his bowl game, but the physical tools is enough for the Browns to take him at #2.

startedwithaword:

With he 3rd overall pick, the San Diego Chargers select DeForest Buckner. With Attoachu and Ingram combining for 120 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles, it’s hard to see them picking Joey Bosa. On the nose, Lissemore and Carrethers are the weak link on an emerging defensive line. At 76 tackles and 9.5 sacks, Buckner has the skills and after his ex-teammate Arik Armstead showed great promise, I would say the Chargers do not “Buck” the trend. And that completes my quota of one pun per mock draft.

louiej23:

3rd overall pick I have the Chargers going defense and selecting DB Jalen Ramsey.  Ramsey is the top defensive back in the draft and the playmaker the Chargers need on the  defensive end.  They’ve got a solid group of linebackers and a strong defensive front line.  They are planning on moving on from Eric Weedle and Ramsey is the lockdown corner they need.  Ramsey can also play some safety if needed to.

startedwithaword:

With the 4th overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys select Jared Goff. The Cowboys were off to a good start until the inevitable happened. Tony Romo hit the injured reserve. Then, the Cowboys played every Quarterback and towel boy they can find on their way to a 4-12 season. While Cornerback is a more pressing need, their history at Quarterback suggests that QB is the way to go. Unlike other teams, the Cowboys may not have the luxury of waiting for a passer to develop into an NFL ready QB. No one is more ready for the NFL today than Jared Goff who will get a luxury that wasn’t afforded to him at Cal and that’s an offensive line that isn’t made of tomato soup cans. At 3.973 yards passing with 35 tds to 7 interceptions, you may see Cowboys fans already buying his jersey.

louiej23:

With the 4th pick the Cowboys select DE Joey Bosa.  Will the Cowboys move on from Greg Hardy?  If so they will ask Bosa to fill the void if not they will ask Bosa to lineup on the other side.  Either way the Cowboys get a pass rushing menace.  Opposing QBs need to take notice because Joey Bosa will be joining you in the backfield in a matter of seconds.

startedwithaword:

With the 5th overall pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select DE Joey Bosa. The Jaguars played a couple of outside linebackers least worth of mentioning. The Jaguars are hoping that redshirt rookie Dante Fowler is what they imagined when they picked him 3rd overall before a season ending injury in mini-camp. As an insurance pick or a possible starter opposite Fowler, Joey Bosa would be a second top five worthy player for a front-seven that is desperate for some penetration.

louiej23:

With the 5th pick, the Jaguars select CB Vernon Hargreaves III.  The Jaguars have their franchise QB in Blake Bortles and they selected Dante Fowler last season to be their defensive stud but an injury in camp forced him to miss the whole season.  Selecting Hargreaves III will help the back end of the defense.

startedwithaword:

With the 6th overall pick, the Baltimore Ravens select Jalen Ramsey. The Ravens need offensive line, but even with an improved offensive line, they would still be left in the dust with Aj Green and Antonio Brown in the division. Enter Jalen Ramsey who is a defensive backs ace that can be placed anywhere in the secondary and can follow the lead receiver no matter where he is lined up. In other games, he can be placed as a full time safety and give memory flashes of Ed Reed.

louiej23:

With the 6th pick, the Ravens select LB Myles Jack.  Daryl Smith and T Sizzle are not getting younger, but you may ask why Jack if the Ravens already have a solid core of linebackers with Mosley, Brown, and Dumervil?  Jack is the safest pick and he also fits what the Ravens do.

startedwithaword:

The 49ers have traded pick 7 to the New Orleans Saints for pick 12, pick 72 (3rd round), and 2017 4th round pick. The New Orleans Saints select Vernon Hargreaves III. The Saints placed in the bottom five in Pass Defense and are in need of help in the secondary right away. They would also need to jump over Miami to get the top cornerback in the draft. The 49ers were a willing trader as they love to stock pile picks. Plus, Trent Baalke is still banking on the trio of Acker, Johnson, and Reaser to fill the position and can also see Marcus Cromartie in the mix for the job.

louiej23:

I’m going with no trades with my initial mock draft, but I do see Baalke moving back like he normally does and acquiring more picks to fill the holes on his roster.  With the 7th pick the 49ers select QB Jared Goff.  Will Colin Kaepernick be on the roster after April 1st?  This pick hinges on what the 49ers do with Kaepernick.  Even if Kaepernick is on the roster still I would still select a QB here and weigh my options in camp.  The local kid lives out his dream and is drafted by the team he grew up watching.  Goff has the accuracy and arm strength to run Chips offense.

startedwithaword:

With the 8th overall pick, the Miami Dolphins select Myles Jack. Miami is in need of linebacker help and Myles Jack is considered to not only be the best linebacker in the draft, but the best upside in the draft as many draft boards suggest he is first overall worthy. His shortened 2015 season will be the reason he fell this far.

louiej23:

The 8th pick the Dolphins select CB Mackensie Alexander. Can you name a Dolphins starting cornerback? This is one of their biggest needs and drafting this physical cornerback fills the need.

startedwithaword:

With the 9th pick in the NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Emmanuel Ogbah. Ogbah is viewed as the safe pick out of the remaining defensive ends that don’t have character issues, overrated labels. Ogbah led the Big 12 in sacks with 12 quarterback takedowns.

louiej23:

With the 9th pick the Buccaneers select tackle Ronnie Stanley.  Just like the Titans they selected their franchise QB last draft and this draft they are going to draft someone who can protect that franchise QB.

startedwithaword:

With the 10th overall pick, the Giants select Jaylon Smith. The Giants will take a chance at a guy who is injured but claims he will be ready opening day in 2016. He has great end to end speed and is a flyer that can blow up plays in passing and rushing.

louiej23:

The 10th pick belongs to the Giants and they’ve got a needs on both the defensive side and the offensive side.  Eli Manning has his WR in OBJ so why not help him out and get a franchise RB.  Giants take RB Ezekiel Elliott and is day 1 starter.  Elliott is a workhorse and probably the only RB worth taking in the 1st rd this draft.

Who do the 49ers draft with the 12th pick in startedwithaword mock?  Do they go defense and possibly get a much needed pass rusher or do they go offense and maybe draft a linemen to protect their QB?  Keep an eye out as we generate our 11th-20th draft picks in the upcoming days.Keep an eye out as we generate our 11th-20th draft picks in the upcoming days.
